A numerical wave model with weak nonlinearity and its application ability analysis

Liu Zhongbo,Tang Jun

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 9,   Pages 96-100

Abstract:

Based on the extended Boussinesq equation with weak nonlinearity, 2-D numerical model was established in nonstaggered grids by the finite difference method. The nonstaggered grids were used with the first-order spatial derivatives being discretized by the fourth-order and the second-order terms discertized by the second-order. For the time derivatives, a composite fourth-order accurate Adams-Bashforth Moulton scheme was used. Numerical simulation was done upon one-dimension and two-dimension wave propagations problem, and through the comparisons of numerical results with the related experimental data, the application of the extended Boussinesq equations were investigated.

Abstract: To reconstruct the shape of the scatterer in elastic media, the authors deduce the Born approximationIn view of the definition of a characteristic function, the shape factor has a corresponding integralObviously, the shape factor can be considered as a Fourier transform of the characteristic function, identification of the geometrical character of a flaw is then given by the two dimensional inverse Born approximation

Meeting deadlines for approximation processing in MapReduce environments Article

Ming-hao HU, Chang-jian WANG, Yu-xing PENG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 11,   Pages 1754-1772 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601056

Abstract: To provide timely results for big data analytics, it is crucial to satisfy deadline requirements for MapReduce jobs in today’s production environments. Much effort has been devoted to the problem of meeting deadlines, and typically there exist two kinds of solutions. The first is to allocate appropriate resources to complete the entire job before the specified time limit, where missed deadlines result because of tight deadline constraints or lack of resources; the second is to run a pre-constructed sample based on deadline constraints, which can satisfy the time requirement but fail to maximize the volumes of processed data. In this paper, we propose a deadline-oriented task scheduling approach, named ‘Dart’, to address the above problem. Given a specified deadline and restricted resources, Dart uses an iterative estimation method, which is based on both historical data and job running status to precisely estimate the real-time job completion time. Based on the estimated time, Dart uses an approach–revise algorithm to make dynamic scheduling decisions for meeting deadlines while maximizing the amount of processed data and mitigating stragglers. Dart also efficiently handles task failures and data skew, protecting its performance from being harmed. We have validated our approach using workloads from OpenCloud and Facebook on a cluster of 64 virtual machines. The results show that Dart can not only effectively meet the deadline but also process near-maximum volumes of data even with tight deadlines and limited resources.

Preparation of a permanent magnetic hypercrosslinked resin and assessment of its ability to remove organic

Wei WANG,Yan MA,Qing ZHOU,Chendong SHUANG,Mancheng ZHANG,Aimin LI

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 1,   Pages 96-104 doi: 10.1007/s11783-014-0724-3

Abstract: A rapid and effective method based on a novel permanent magnetic hypercrosslinked resin W150 was proposed for the removal of organic micropollutants in drinking water. W150 was prepared by suspension and post-crosslinking reaction and found to possess a high specific surface area of 1149.7 m ·g , a small particle size of 50 μm to 100 μm, and a saturation magnetization as high as 8 emu·g . W150 was used to eliminate nitrofurazone (NFZ) and oxytetracycline (OTC) from drinking water compared with commercial adsorbents XAD-4 and F400D. The adsorption kinetics of NFZ and OTC onto the three adsorbents well fitted the pseudo-second-order equation ( >0.972), and the adsorption isotherms were all well described by the Freundlich equation ( >0.851). Results showed that the reduction in adsorbent size and the enlargement in sorbent pores both accelerated adsorption. Moreover, the effect of particle size on adsorption was more significant than that of pore width. Given that the smallest particle size and the highest specific surface area were possessed by W150, it had the fastest adsorption kinetics and largest adsorption capacity for NFZ (180 mg·g ) and OTC (200 mg·g ). For the adsorbents with dominant micropores, the sorption of large-sized adsorbates decreased because of the inaccessible micropores. The solution pH and ionic strength also influenced adsorption.
